GEF Continuing Education Scholarships

The Gibbon Educational Foundation (GEF) will be awarding several Continuing Education Scholarships to graduates of Gibbon Public Schools for the 2020-2021 academic year. The guidelines and application for these scholarships can be downloaded from this website. The application is located on the Students Tab – 2020 Scholarships link at the top of this page. The deadline for applying is June 5.

GEA Continuing Education Scholarship Available

The Gibbon Education Association (GEA) Continuing Education Scholarship is now available. This scholarship is for Gibbon graduates entering their junior or senior year of college and pursuing a degree in education. The link to the application and guidelines can be found within the 2019 Scholarships link under the Students Tab at the top of this page.

New Scholarships Posted

Applications for the GEA Scholarship, the Gibbon Boosters Scholarship, and the Bob “Goofy” Mitchell Memorial Scholarship have been posted. Seniors are reminded that scholarships will be posted under the Students Tab – 2019 Scholarship menu at the top of this page as they become available.

Grub Grill At Football Game

This Friday, October 12, the football game versus GICC will be played at Grand Island Northwest High School. The GICC Dance Team will be hosting a Grub Grill before the kickoff. They will be serving chili, cinnamon rolls, and a drink (pop, water, coffee) for $5. They would appreciate your support if attending the game.

Congratulations GHS Graduates – Class of 2018!

Congratulations to the Graduates of the Class of 2018!  The seniors will be making their way across the stage in the traditional ceremony beginning at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 12th.  Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony in the high school gym.  General seating is in the bleachers.  Limited reserved seating is on the floor.  If you are unable to attend in person, join us for our LIVESTREAM of the event!

NOTE:  Due to a hardware failure, we will be unable to livestream our graduation ceremony.  We will record and publish the video next week.  Please check back on this website for the graduation recording video link.  Thank you for your understanding.

2018 Athletic Awards

End-of-the-Year iPad Collection Dates

Parents & Guardians; We will be collecting iPads, charging bricks and cords, from all 7th-11th-grade students on the following dates during Language Arts & Reading classes.

  • May 17th AM = 9th Grade
  • May 17th PM = 10th Grade
  • May 18th AM = 7th Grade
  • May 21st AM = 11th Grade (iPads & Laptops)
  • May 21st PM = 8th Grade

It is important for the life of the iPads and the safety of our students/families that we use “Made for iPod, iPhone, iPad” or MFi (Apple Certified) cords and bricks.  (Articles from ABC and CNET)  If your student needs either the cord or brick, they can purchase those any time from the office.  *Late cords and bricks will not be accepted this year.  Students that forget their cord/brick will be charged for those items.  Charges will be added in PowerSchool.  The cost of the bricks are $15 and the cords are $15.

Damages on the iPads and cases will be assessed on an individual basis.

7th & 8th Grade 6-Word Memoirs

In Mrs. Jacobsen’s 7th & 8th grade Language Arts classes, students wrote their own 6-word memoirs and wanted to share them with the world!

Continuing Education Scholarships Available To GHS Alumni

The Gibbon Educational Foundation will be awarding several scholarships again to Gibbon Alumni for the 2018-2019 school year. Applications are now available under the Students Tab (2018 Scholarships Link) or click here for guidelines and the application: GEF Continuing Education Scholarships. The deadline for submitting an application is June 1.

Students Represent Well At ACTIONS Day

Congratulations to the following students for placing at ACTIONS Day competition held at Central Community College in Hastings on Wednesday, March 28: Collin Dorsynski,  Accounting – 1st, General Math – 5th, Sport – 5th; Samantha Mercer, Genetics – 1st, Chemistry – 2nd; Maliyah Rivera, Art – 4th; Brett Gillming, Electricity – 5th; Edhel Escandon, American Geography – 5th; Shelby Davis, English 1 – 5th; Nathan Allan, Art – 4th; and Cassidy Cooper, Art – 5th. There were approximately 650 students from 27 high schools that competed at ACTIONS Day, which stands for Academic Competition That Inspires Our Nation’s Scholars. Great job representing yourself and Gibbon!

Local Scholarship Additions

The Gibbon Chamber of Commerce Scholarship (due date April 13) and the P.E.O Scholarship (due date April 18) applications are available to graduating seniors. Continue to check the 2018 Scholarship link under the Students Tab on this website for scholarship opportunities as they become available.

Additional Scholarships Available

The Gibbon Wrestling Scholarship (deadline April 13) and the Dale Wrede Scholarship (deadline April 22) are now available. Applications and guidelines may be downloaded from the 2018 Scholarships link under the Students Tab on this page; they are also located on the guidance counselor’s web page.

GEA/Steve Van Meter Scholarship Available

An additional scholarship is being awarded to a 2018 graduating senior in memory of Steve Van Meter, former Gibbon Elementary Principal. Students may apply for this scholarship, funded by the Van Meter family, in conjunction with the Gibbon Education Association (GEA) application. This GEA/Steve Van Meter scholarship application is available under the Students Tab (2018 Scholarship Link) at the top of this page.  Seniors should submit their application to Mrs. Waddle by 3:30 pm on Friday, April 13.

Thank You For Your Support

The Gibbon Education Association would like to thank the community for attending the Pancake Feed. Your support will once again allow the GEA to award scholarships in the spring to several graduating seniors. Thank you again!

Veterans Day Program

Please join us this Friday, November 10, at the Veterans Day Program to honor and thank all of our local veterans for their service and sacrifice. The program begins at 1:00 pm in the high school gym and will last approximately one hour. All veterans are asked to sit in the reserved seating section in the chairs on the gym floor. A coffee reception will be held in the commons area afterwards for all veterans and their families.

Latino Leadership Symposium

On November 7, Mrs. Quinteros and Mrs. Waddle took 26 Gibbon High School students to UNL to attend the Latino Leadership Symposium. Along with learning about leadership roles, community involvement, and higher education, these students had the opportunity to meet and learn about Senator Tony Vargas, Nebraska Legislature-District 7. By attending this event, they are also now eligible to receive UNL’s Emerging Leaders Tuition Scholarship worth $2,000 which is renewable for four academic years!

“Supts” On! – Gibbon Student to Sing National Anthem at State Event

Congratulations to our very own Baylee Rockefeller who was selected by NSAA to sing the National Anthem at the 2018 State Girls Soccer Tournament in May.  Nice Job Baylee.  #GPSBuffs #WeAreGibbon

The volleyball triangular scheduled at Nebraska Christian in Central City on Thursday, October 26, will now be a VARSITY DUAL with Nebraska Christian only starting at 7 pm.
